It's been a really exciting fortnight for us, doing our first two market events. We've learnt a lot.

For starters

ree

, how much you love our sourdough and SourDoughnuts! But also, that many people haven't heard of us before, or that you don't know how to routinely get your paws on our products - so it's time for an update!

  1. You can always get our goodies online at www.blackcatbakes.co.uk/shop

It's a basic, old website, but for now does the job. Each week we release new SourDoughnut flavours, which along with our bread, can be ordered for delivery on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. There are order deadlines because sourdough is a slow process. If you want bread on Friday, we need to have started making the dough on Wednesday. The doughnuts and bread are baked fresh on the morning of delivery (bread may even arrive warm!), but the dough itself takes days to produce. And, we often sell-out. We're working at the very max that our current space can accommodate, so once we're full of orders, we really are full. That's why we added Thursday to the schedule - to give more opportunity for sourdough, which is only ever a good thing.

  2. From one of our wonderful local stockists.

Thursdays: Edon (Kelvedon), Poplar Nurseries (Marks Tey), Ecolnes (Earls Colne), Fields Farm Shop (East Bergholt), McLauchlans Fruit Farm (Boxted, summer season).

Fridays: Fields Farm Shop (East Bergholt), McLauchlans Fruit Farm (Boxted, summer season), Skylark (Ardleigh), Manningtree Arts (Manningtree), Honey & Harvey (Colchester), Barrell's (Wivenhoe)

Saturdays: Fields Farm Shop (East Bergholt), McLauchlans Fruit Farm (Boxted, summer season), Manningtree Arts (Manningtree), Honey & Harvey (Colchester, Melton, Woodbridge, Ipswich), Frankie's Studio (Hadleigh), Love Local (Copford), Crouch St Bakes (Colchester), River Colne Deli (Brightlingsea), Barrell's (Wivenhoe)

If you'd like a shop to stock us, hassle them!

  3. You can find us at Colchester Farmer's Market, by the Mercury Theatre, from 0930am the first Saturday of every month. We're only allowed to sell SourDoughnuts from this market, as there is an existing bread baker already there. We hope to find a market we can sell our sourdough loaves from soon.

  4. We desperately want our own shop. For a long time we were too nervous to take the leap. Now we see it as something we need, and that many of you desperately want. We found the perfect spot, but planning permission has been challenging. It might mean we need to start the search again, but watch this space. If you'd love us in your area, let us know!
